Valentine’s Day often gets completely blown out of proportion: the expectation of over-the-top gifts and life-changing experiences on a single day can result in frustration and disappointment. More and more couples are jointly choosing to simply pretend that Valentine’s Day doesn’t exist. But believe it or not, there are many non-cheesy, inexpensive, meaningful ways to celebrate love on February 14th (and other days!).

Take the Pressure Off Future Dates

“Date Night” is a great tool to make sure you and your partner make time to connect and savour each other’s company. But the night can easily get off to a rocky start with the dreaded “so, what do you want to do?” question. Spare yourselves the hassle! Find or create a beautiful container, and it fill it with great date ideas (popsicle sticks work really well for this!). It’s like you are giving your partner the gift of future dates!

Try a Sensual Massage

Sensual massage not only helps you relax and relieves sore muscles; it will also allow you and your partner to tap into each other physically, mentally, and emotionally. All you need is some soft lighting, yummy massage oil (try virgin coconut oil!), mood music, and your own two hands!

Be Appreciative

Think of all the little things you love about your partner – how often do you tell them those things? Likely not very often. Buy an inexpensive agenda that has space on each day to write. Then, write a few lines each day explaining one thing you love about them. If you can, start a few days before Valentine’s Day, so they have something to read right away. Keep the book beside the bed – your partner can read the daily note before the lights go out.

This book works great as an “appreciation journal”.

There is no reason to spend excessive amounts of money, or plan an over-the-top day in the name of love. Just showing your appreciation and love for your partner in a small, meaningful way can have a big impact.
